Press release from the University of Alabama: March 29, 2022 Looking for something affordable and fun to do? Here are a few suggestions. Check the UA events calendar for more. "Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery" The UA Department of Theatre and Dance continues its season with Ken Ludwig's "Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery" March 28-April 2 at 7:30 p.m., and April 3 at 2 p.m. in the Allen Bales Theatre. The play follows Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic mystery-solving duo, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, as they come face to face with rumors of an oversized hound terrorizing Baskerville's residents. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online. "Dance Alabama! – Spring 2022″ This biannual program will be performed March 30-31 at 7:30 p.m., April 1 at 5:30 p.m., and April 2 at 2 p.m. in the Dance Theatre in the English Building on UA's campus. Dance Alabama! is a concert of performances choreographed, designed and performed by UA students. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $14 for UA students. Tickets can be purchased online. Exploring Thornton Willis The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art presents "Exploring Thornton Willis" March 31-May 11, featuring paintings by the artist from the gallery's permanent collection. A reception will be held Friday, April 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the gallery. Curated by William Dooley, gallery director and associate professor of art,this exhibit offers a career survey of paintings by Willis, an acclaimed second-generation abstract expressionist artist and UA alumnus. Works selected span more than 40 years of Willis' oeuvre, presenting his evolution of thought as an artist. Admission to the gallery is free. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., when school is in session. The gallery is located at 103 Garland Hall. First Friday Art Walk April 1 Art galleries and museums in downtown Tuscaloosa stay open to the public the first Friday of each month. Patrons are invited to park their cars and, using the art walk map, stroll between galleries and museums. Check each gallery page for the night's exhibits, events and hours of operation. Evening of Jazz, Pop and Broadway Favorites An annual highlight of the UA opera theatre program, this performance will be held at Bryant-Jordan Hall April 5 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. This free event fills up fast, so early arrival is recommended. Public Sculptures If you need a quick break from work and want some fresh air and exercise, combine a walk with a tour of UA's public sculpture. The UA art and art history department website provides a description of what's been called the University's "permanent outdoor collection."
