"The Ed Love Water Treatment Plant team is aware of a fluoride leak from a new bulk holding tank at the facility. Crew workers are on site," said City of Tuscaloosa spokesman Richard Rush. "There is no threat to the general public. All appropriate agencies have been notified and our crews have coordinated with hazmat."
He then said the city bought a new holding tank, which was installed and pressure tested.
However, when it was filled with fluoride, it began to leak, Rush said.
The spill was quickly contained and traffic was reopened at the intersection Wednesday evening.
