Reasonable accommodations may be made to help enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Position Summary The Produce Team Lead provides top quality produce, with the widest selection and best value possible, at all times. This position is responsible for creating a safe, attractive, and efficient department staffed with well-trained employees who provide excellent customer service. The Produce Team Lead is responsible for achieving positive operating results in the Produce Department. Responsibilities Customer Service • Provide prompt, friendly customer service • Encourage and answer all customer suggestions, requests and complaints pertaining to produce Merchandising • Determine product mix using established product selection criteria to achieve sales and margin goals and satisfy customer demand. • Keep abreast of new product offerings and changing member needs, report product adjustments to the Operations Manager. • Stay up to date on organic standards. • Implement effective promotional programs, displays and signage in conjunction with Marketing Manager. • Work with produce staff to assure an excellent overall department presentation including fully stocked bins and shelves. The department should be clean, attractive and safe at all times with complete and accurate signs and shelf tags. • Visit other stores for price comparisons and merchandising ideas. Department Maintenance • Ensure proper storage, rotation and culling of produce. • Maintain effective working relations with suppliers. • Schedule delivery of small vendor goods and oversee proper in-store receiving guidelines by produce staff • Ensure all signs and shelf tags are accurate • Conduct monthly inventories when necessary. • Coordinate with other department managers to conduct quarterly inventory General Management • Participate in development of operating and capital budgets for store • Attend meetings as needed • Assist as needed with daily operations, routines and procedures • Perform other tasks as assigned by the General Manager Qualifications • At least 3 years of experience in retail produce • Knowledge of organic and commercial growing practices, and organic certification regulations • Supervisory experience: hiring, training, evaluating, and giving directions • Ability to read financial statements; firm grasp of margin and pricing • Organized, consistently follows through on commitments • Communications skills—gives clear directions, listens well • Dedication to ensuring the customer has the best possible experience • Ability to stand for long periods • Ability to exert force, push, pull, lift to 25+ lbs. • Ability to work in cold, wet conditions • Regular, predictable attendance • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job • Extensive knowledge of produce identification, storage, use, and preparation • Extensive understanding of organic standards as they apply to produce and prepared foods within produce • Ability to manage multiple demands and meet deadlines • Ability to develop and maintain mutually respectful relations with customers, staff, and vendors • Ability to work independently and motivate self and others • Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, effective manner Work Environment: Grocery Store, cool and warm areas in various departments The company has reviewed this job description to ensure that essential functions and basic duties have been included.
