Westbound 10 Freeway Shut Down After Car Hits Fire Hydrant

SANTA MONICA, CA — All westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway were shut down at Fourth Street in Santa Monica Monday morning to direct traffic away from a fire hydrant hit by a car on Pacific Coast Highway, authorities said. The gray Mazda 3 hit the hydrant at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday at Pacific Coast Highway and Fourth Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. It did not appear the driver was injured, the CHP said. A SigAlert was issued at 2:43 a.m. shutting down the lanes where they become Highway One while the hydrant was repaired. It was still in effect as of 8:05 a.m., CHP said. At 7:50 a.m., a traffic collision with major injuries was also reported at I-10 West and 4th Street in Santa Monica.
