I’m 83 years old I like to express my thoughts on salmon recovery
Washington fisheries is controlled by the sports fishermen and commercial fishing. There still issuing
commercial fishing license for the Puget Sound for salmon and bottom fishing.
And there’s no Fish to be caught
In just the last 15 years they destroyed the Smelt run and Shad run on the Columbia River
They’ve allowed commercial fisherman’s to fish spawning beds until no, I mean no fish came and
swipe ocean clean of all bottom fish from Washington to California
Instead of protecting the fisheries they allowed it to be destroyed
The salmon you catch today are nothing but skin and bone they’re starving.
Right now the Big discussion on saving salmon taken down Snake River dams estimate cost
$33.5 Billion right now there is few salmon that has the bodyweight to make it that far up the river.
This money would be better spent on recovering smelt & bottom fishing spawning beds.
I believe before you can have salmon recovery you have to have smelt recovery and bottom fish recovery.
Right now the Puget sound is dead compared to when I grew up in the 50s
I personally see no results in salmon recovery on the money we spent so far.
Expressing my thoughts on Salmon recovery.
