Department Summary UO Scheduling & Event Services, a service of the Erb Memorial Union (EMU), operates as a unit of the Division of Student Life at the University of Oregon and as such, seeks to create opportunities for exceptional experiences for students and to help the University carry out its commitment to the integration of teaching, research, and service. UO Scheduling & Event Services, operating on a budget of approximately $1.5 million, schedules use of all of the EMU’s reservable locations, over 100 classrooms, Gerlinger Alumni Lounge, outdoor spaces, and various other campus locations, coordinating over 16,000 meetings and events per year. In addition, UO Scheduling & Event Services provides event production support and resources in the form of live audio reinforcement, video, specialty lighting, event supervision, crowd monitoring, and other services to events on campus. Position Summary The purpose of this position is to coordinate and supervise a variety of services performed by student crews, enabling UO Scheduling & Event Services to facilitate events. This unit plays a key role in fulfilling the EMU's mission to serve the campus and at-large community in the following ways: by providing the scheduling and provision of sound, lighting, audiovisual and other equipment; by providing trained personnel to supervise, set up, operate and take down equipment and facilities; by monitoring and maintaining equipment and facilities; and by executing special projects. Work Conditions and Physical Demands There is a high volume of public contact and continual pressure of demands from a heavy workload. The employee may spend extended periods in front of a video display terminal. The employee may work indoors or outdoors during loud concerts and sound checks, and in/around large crowds (approximately 10–20 hours per month). The employee may work on hydraulic lifts/ladders and in confined spaces (approx. 3 hours per week). Work may include moving heavy equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Work Schedule This position works a “flex” schedule, with a varied work shift on a weekly basis: daytime, evenings, Monday–Sunday, with varied days and hours off. Minimum Requirements One year of experience as a maintenance or general laborer. Professional Competencies • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, computer and telephone skills. • Ability to learn and operate a variety of computer programs. • Ability to prioritize work and deal with the demands of a high-volume workplace, without necessarily completing all tasks on a given day, while remaining calm and pleasant in a service-oriented office. • Ability to be accurate and pay close attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications • Experience using R25 or similar scheduling software preferred. • At least three years of experience in event production or in a multi-use/performance-based facility. -This experience should include event management (including staff training and development), interpreting laws, rules and regulations, enforcing policies and procedures, and demonstrating technical knowledge specific to event production (sound, lighting, audiovisual). - One year of post-secondary education specific to event production/management may be substituted for one of the three years of preferred experience.
