Description

I have a 17 month old all black, long hair, female dog for adoption. She seems to be an Afghan in appearance, in temperament, and in her mannerisms; if she is of mixed breed, no other breed is recognizable. She had a haircut at about 12 months, just before I got her, so the feathering of her long hair is seven months behind. She has had her shots, been spayed, and has a microchip not yet activated. After adopting her six months ago I found that I will have to have several surgeries this coming year which will severely limit my ability to care for her for most of the year. I cannot responsibly keep her. She is good natured, gentle, curious, affectionate, and comical, but she is not a “family” dog, because she will adopt and be loyal to one person only. She will endure attention from others, but not comfortably. She works extremely well on a short leash and a long retractable leash. She is house broken but must be kept on a regular schedule. As long as she's been out first, she can be left alone for a few hours, not all day. She never barks. She is not an apartment dog. She must have time and a yard to run. She is a "special needs" dog. She is shy, skittish, and can be easily spooked (may have suffered mental abuse at one time). She needs a quiet environment with someone who can give her a lot of attention and careful, gentle treatment. She will, for instance, respond to and learn from gentle scolding, not shouting. Transitioning to a new environment and gaining her trust will take a couple of demanding months. She will fare best with a single stay-at-home parent. There is no adoption fee, but I will be cautious in considering anyone interested in adopting to ensure she finds a suitable home. This is a relisting. I thought she had found a home last month, after several email exchanges I cancelled the listing, but ultimately the person didn't show up.
