Smithfield Water Main Replacement Project Begins Monday

SMITHFIELD, RI — Esmond Street will be closed to through traffic starting Monday as Providence Water Supply begins upgrading their distribution system, expected to lead to better service to customers, with a water main replacement project. The work is planned to be done on an expedited manner, which will necessitate the closure of the road. The Smithfield Department of Public Works, along with Boyle and Fogarty Construction, has developed a detour plan and a notification plan for customers. The project timeline is about 2 1/2 to 3 months with permanent road restoration to be performed in the spring. Here is a map of the traffic detour plan, per town of Smithfield.
