Gov. Gina Raimondo Gives Update On R.I. Coronavirus Testing

SMITHFIELD, RI—At Thursday's coronavirus press conference, Governor Gina Raimondo gave an update on the Rhode Island's testing capacities, expressing that the state's main goal is to identify positive cases as soon as possible in order to get people into isolation. With multiple testing sites designated for asymptomatic or symptomatic individuals, including McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, South Road Elementary School in South Kingstown, and the Stop & Shop in Greenville, Raimondo said the state is currently giving 2,500 tests daily and will easily exceed its initial goal of administering 3,000 tests daily by the end of the two-week pause. "There is more capacity than ever to get a test," said Raimondo. Along with providing tests from the established testing sites, Rhode Island also began offering tests at a new 15-minute site at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence on Monday. The site and is currently administering 500 tests a day for asymptomatic individuals and will reach 2,500 daily tests by next Monday. Raimondo is asking that symptomatic individuals to reach out to their PCPs. If they don't have one, they should schedule a test at portal.ri.gov. Asymptomatic individuals should still get tested if they have a public-facing job, traveled recently, or attended a gathering with people outside of their household.
