Press release from the City of Waukee:
December 10, 2020
With the no shaving in November initiative finally over in the Waukee Fire Department, the mustaches are gone and the bald guys are back to being bald. The department raised $600 through staff donations for the Peer Support Foundation!
The Peer Support Foundation provides training for law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel in relation to peer support concepts and critical incident stress. As first responders experience difficult scenes without always having the time to process those images and situations, it can take a toll on mental health and family stress. Goals of the foundation are to reduce first responder suicide rates, reduce family discord and have first responders survive and thrive in retirement. Great work, Waukee FD!
