Join us for a one day 3-part series on how to make a quilt for beginners! Book one or book all three! Part 1 - Quilt Pattern Reading - 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM - $25.00 Part 2 - Beginning Quiltmaking - 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM - $65.00 Part 3 - Quilt Troubleshooting & Open Sew - 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM - $25.00 Part 1 Details: Learn how to read any quilt pattern to make your quilt a success! A lot of planning and preparation goes into making a quilt, and if you’re a beginner, it can be intimidating to figure everything out on your own. This class is designed to remove the language barrier between you and the gorgeous quilt pattern you’ve chosen to create. If you’re new to quilt making and unsure of what “RST” or “WOF” mean, or you’ve only ever made quilts from watching video tutorials but want to take the transition into written patterns, this class will help you gain confidence in your hobby. We’ll review quilting terms, pattern reading tips and tricks, and break down what common visual diagrams mean. If you’re currently working on a pattern that you need help reading, feel free to bring your own as well! Part 2 Details: Learn basic quilting fundamentals and techniques while making a gorgeous quilted wall hanging. This class is for novice beginners to intermediate beginners who want to start making full sized quilts. Maybe you’ve started learning on YouTube and just need some hands on teaching experience or maybe you’re just starting a new hobby! Basic knowledge of how to operate your sewing machine is required. Participants who haven’t used a sewing machine are encouraged to take C.A.’s Machine Sewing Basics prior to taking this class. You will learn some introductory, hands-on, fundamental basics of quilt pattern reading, color theory, preparing and cutting fabric, economy quilting, and sewing on a domestic sewing machine with a 1/4” seam allowance. We will talk about many common quilting tools and how to use them. You will learn some basic techniques including flying geese, chain piecing, basting, and binding. By the end of the day, you will have a completed (or nearly completed) wall hanging. MATERIALS PROVIDED TO ATTENDEES Rotary cutter, Scissors, Iron & ironing board, Cutting mats, Batting (if desired) MATERIALS ATTENDEES SHOULD BRING FROM HOME (IF ANY) Cotton quilting fabric (4-6 fat quarters/fat eighths/quarter yard fabrics/assorted fabric scraps), Sewing machine, threaded with all purpose neutral colored thread, Clear quilting ruler, Straight pins Note: All of these materials are optional, but the shop supplies are limited. If you don’t have a sewing machine, let us know in advance to ensure we have enough. Part 3 - Details: Open hours for troubleshooting and assistance at any stage of your quilt’s journey to creation. Have you started a pattern that just isn’t making sense anymore? Have your quilt blocks gone wonky in their sashing? Seams, points, or corners not matching up? Halfway done and not sure what the next steps are or how to finish? Bring your in-progress quilting project to Jessa to help you get over your hurdle! Or just bring your sewing machine & current project for some like-minded quilting company. Space is limited to ensure proper time and instructor attention can be given to everyone.
