Description

SMITHFIELD, RI — The Smithfield Department of Public Works is trying to make it easier for residents to recycle all of those cardboard boxes delivered during the holiday season. Smithfield DPW has a container where large, flattened cardboard containers can be dropped off on Spragueville Road. Smithfield DPW said its recycling container is for cardboard only and can accommodate flattened cardboard up to 5 feet, 4 inches in length. This avoids residents having to cut up cardboard in order to fit in curbside cart. Smithfield residents are reminded that curbside trash and recycling lids must be able to be completely closed in order to be picked up. Overflowing containers, or those with material sticking out from under the lid, are not accepted because moisture gets into the cart and can result in the load getting rejected at the recycling center. The Smithfield DPW cardboard recycling box can be accessed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3 Spragueville Road. Anyone with questions can contact Melissa Chaput at 401-233-1034, Ext. 105.
