PRINCETON, NJ — U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education, Cindy Marten, will be visiting Princeton High School on Tuesday, the DOE announced. Marten's visit is part of the administration's "ARPStars" tour, to highlight how schools are using the American Rescue Plan investments. Marten will visit Princeton High School Tuesday morning to see how the school is using ARP funds to strengthen arts and mental health resources for students, as well as professional development and coaching for educators. The Deputy Secretary will be accompanied by New Jersey Assistant Commissioner of Education, Jordan Schiff and will meet Superintendent Carol Kelley. Marten will also tour a preschool classroom at Johnson Park Elementary School, participate in a roundtable discussion with district principals, and discuss tutoring and special programs for students, according to the U.S. Department of Education. All these programs are funded by ARP. On Wednesday, Marten will visit Newark and meet with Mayor Ras J. Baraka and leaders of Newark Public Schools, Montclair State University, and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Marten's three-day tour will cover multiple schools to highlight their use of ARP funds. President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan a year ago, which included $130 billion to support recovery efforts at K-12 schools. Marten served as the superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District since 2013, before being confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Deputy Secretary in May last year. She has been an educator for 32 years and held various roles including teacher, literacy specialist, vice principal, and principal. Thank you for reading. Have a correction or news tip?
