MILWAUKEE, WI — Police and Milwaukee's acting mayor asked for people to speak up after three men were shot and killed in the city's northwest side Sunday. A 26-year-old man, a 39-year-old man and a 52-year-old man were all killed by gunfire in an apartment complex on the 6400 block of N. 54th Street, the Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement. Police are investigating what led up to the shooting, but they said it happened around 11:45 a.m. The shooter or shooters haven't been identified. Acting Mayor Cavalier Johnson asked people to speak up and identify the shooter, Fox 6 Milwaukee reported. "We can't normalize this," Johnson said at a news conference. Milwaukee's homicides are on track to exceed records set in 2020 and 2021: There were 55 homicides in Milwaukee County as of March 2022, Milwaukee County Medical Examiner Brian Peterson said in a statement. In Milwaukee County, there were 30 homicides in March 2021 and 40 homicides in March 2020, the medical examiner said. In March 2019, there were 26 homicides recorded.
