SANTA CRUZ, CA — The City of Santa Cruz is piloting a new program to limit traffic on 10 streets and ensure that pedestrians and cyclists have more space to socially distance. The city is taking applications now from neighborhood groups and community members who wish to see their neighborhood considered. Neighborhoods selected will be spread across the city. Apply here. Many pedestrians have taken to the streets to try to ensure they keep six feet of distance from others, the city said. The Slow Streets program aims to make more shared space for food and bike traffic on the roadway. Streets will not be closed, but signs will be used to divert traffic and lower speed limits, the city said. Slow Streets will not bring changes to parking, impact driveways or business entrances or enable outdoor public gatherings. Learn more about the program and provide feedback here.
