SANTA CRUZ, CA — The city of Santa Cruz has chosen 11 streets to be part of its Slow Streets pilot program to make more space for pedestrians and cyclists, who have taken to local streets to exercise amid the stay-at-home order. The 11 street segments were nominated by residents and selected by the city. Cars will still be able to pass through, though they will be under new restrictions to make more space for cyclists and pedestrians seeking to exercise while maintaining social distancing, the city said in a news release Thursday. The need to maintain social distancing has resulted in some unsafely entering roadways to pass others, the city previously said. Here are the 11 streets chosen: Caledonia between Soquel and BroadwayDarwin/Owen between Hanover and HallEscalona between Bay and HighlandGetchell between Delaware and West CliffGrandview between Southview Terrace and WesternJenne between Blackburn and ChestnutMay between Coulson and WaterMelrose between Trevethan and StanfordModesto/Wanzer between Fair and SwantonOxford between Woodrow and AlmarTrevethan between Eastgate and RoxasThe city is considering expanding the program.
