Description

Share a meal with neighbors in Wilmot Kearsarge Community Network (KCN), in collaboration with the Wilmot Community Association (WCA) and Wilmot Public Library (WPL), will host Stone Soup, a luncheon to reunite friends and neighbors, build connections and celebrate resilience as they emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Stone Soup is a European folk story about hungry travelers enticing miserly villagers to contribute food for a shared soup. The result is a delicious, communal meal that becomes a practice in the community. In this version of stone soup, students from the Kearsarge Regional High School Culinary Department will prepare several soups and fresh bread to share with the people of Wilmot. “Stone Soup is a response to the mental health impacts of isolation people suffered during the pandemic,” said Carol Adams, Kearsarge Community Network coordinator. “Providing opportunities to share a meal and reconnect neighbors strengthens individuals and communities.” Registration is required for this program, which is free and open to Wilmot residents. Stone Soup is made possible through a grant from UNH Cooperative Extension supported by Rural Health and Safety Education Competitive Grants Program of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, USDA Grants. KNC connects local nonprofit organizations, civic groups, libraries, businesses and community volunteers. Its activities address the effects of the pandemic on the social and economic fabric of our communities. The WCA, a not-for-profit organization, offers free and low-cost events to the local community throughout the year. The association owns and operates two facilities in Wilmot – the Red Barn, a community center, and Timmy Patten Park, a beach and playground. Among its many services, the Wilmot Public Library loans books and materials, schedules lectures, houses an informal art gallery, hosts two book discussion groups, and offers a weekly play time for toddlers.
