Voters Pick Who Will Serve Southern Santa Cruz County In Congress

CENTRAL COAST, CA — Voters in much of Santa Cruz County are among those who will decide who should represent California's 20th Congressional District, which includes the city of Santa Cruz and the rest of the southern portion of Santa Cruz County. Monterey County and portions of San Benito County are also included in the district. Incumbent and Democrat Jimmy Panetta is fending off a challenge from Republican and small business owner Jeff Gorman. Panetta and Gorman were the top vote-getters in the March primary. Panetta led with 66 percent of the vote, while Nohrden garnered 20 percent and Democrat Adam Bolaños Scow received 14 percent. View district map here. There are 171,000 registered voters in Santa Cruz County, including some 101,000 Democrats, 37,000 nonpartisans and 24,000 Republicans. Stay tuned to Patch on Election Day for results.
