CENTRAL COAST, CA — Central Coast and some South Bay voters are deciding who should represent California's 29th Assembly District, which includes Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo counties, coastal Monterey County and the Gilroy area. Incumbent and Democrat Bill Monning has hit his term limit and cannot seek re-election. Democrat and longtime state and local public official John Laird is facing off against Republican businesswoman Vicki Nohrden. Laird and Nohrden were the top vote-getters in the March primary. Laird led with 44 percent of the vote, while Nohrden garnered 32 percent of the vote. Democrats Maria Cadenas and John M. Nevill split the remaining 24 precent of the vote. View district map here. There are 171,000 registered voters in Santa Cruz County, including some 101,000 Democrats, 37,000 nonpartisans and 24,000 Republicans. Stay tuned to Patch on Election Day for results.
