SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Santa Cruz County Clerk Gail Pellerin announced Thursday that she will depart from her position next month to pursue other interests. Pellerin has served for more than 27 years as the county's chief elections official. Among other duties as county clerk, her office issues passports and marriage licenses. She plans to have her last day in office be Dec. 30, according to the county. Pellerin has served as president of the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials and on the state's Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee and has authored several guidebooks to assist voters through various election procedures. "Gail has dedicated her career to ensuring the right to vote is protected and expanded. At a time when many have created barriers, she has broken down walls. Because of her, we are a national model for voting access," county Supervisor Zach Friend said.
