Description
GULFPORT, FL — Gulfport's First Friday Art Walk returns to Beach Boulevard on Friday, April 1, with the second annual In Plein Sight, a themed celebration of the rich and diverse plein air painting community in the region.
The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. alongside the shops, restaurants and galleries that comprise the town's cultural hub on Beach Boulevard. It is hosted by the Gulfport Merchants Chamber.
In Plein Sight welcomes emerging and professional plein air painters from across the region to show and sell their work in this arts-loving community, as well as have an opportunity to win cash prizes.
After last year's successful debut of the event, which featured nearly 50 artists, the Gulfport Merchants Chamber is broadening its outreach by including a plein air painting class by award-winning plein air painter and instructor Jack Providenti, taking place two days before the event.
"The GMC is excited to welcome established and beginner plein air painters back to Gulfport this April to paint the town in all its beauty and glory," said Brenda McMahon, chairwoman of the arts committee of the GMC and owner of Brenda McMahon Gallery. "After the high level of interest in last year's event, we're hopeful of welcoming the inclusion of even more artists at the event by offering a class for artists of any level."
The class will be held on Gulfport Beach from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 30. Artists may sign up the day of the event on location or register any time beforehand at Brenda McMahon Gallery, 2901 Beach Blvd. S in downtown Gulfport. The class costs $20 or is free for members of GMC's membership program for artists and arts groups, Art Works Here.
