Description

Come learn about birds in the area in this event for Scouts and others interested in learning more. On Saturday, April 9, the Lexington County Museum will host a free outdoor meet-up for Lexington area Boy and Girl Scouts with the theme “Celebrating and Protecting Carolina Birds.” Join us at 10:00 am or at 1:00 pm on the grounds of the Lexington County Museum to learn about identifying birds and how to encourage them to come to your yard. Patricia Voelker, a Saluda Shoals Park interpreter and notable SC midlands wildlife authority, will lead a bird talk/walk with an emphasis on how to identify birds by sight and sound. Other topics will include advice on bird feeders and bird houses by Sandy DeFrance of Wild Birds Unlimited-Lexington and ideas on protecting birds in your own backyard by John Myers, interpreter of the Lexington County Museum. There also will be a presentation on possible scout merit badges on birding and conservation. Registration is on a first come, first come basis. Bring your own seating for comfort: a lawn chair, a blanket or camp stool! Boy Scout troops are encouraged to join us from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. Girls Scout troops are encouraged to join the same program from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. (However, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts may come at either time slot.) If there are questions, call the Lexington County Museum at 803-359-8369.
