Press release from the City of Austin: March 28, 2022 Live webinars are scheduled this Tuesday and Thursday and will be held on Zoom. You can also review previous presentations and public meetings in the Project Connect Public Engagement Library. In the final week of Women's History Month, the Austin Transportation Department (ATD) would like to recognize two more impactful women leading ATD's efforts to make Austin streets safer. For almost 7 years, Anna Martin has worked to improve transportation in Austin. Martin began her work at ATD as the South Area Engineer in the Transportation Engineering Division, and in 2018 became ATD's lead on the 2016 Corridor Mobility Program. In 2020, Martin was promoted to Assistant Director to oversee crucial departments including Transportation Engineering, Active Transportation and Street Design and Project Delivery. Martin is thrilled to work at ATD in a time of such unprecedented investment in transportation. After having several phenomenal women mentors early in her career, she hopes that she can be that mentor for other female engineers that are just beginning their careers. Another inspiring woman in leadership at ATD is Karla Taylor, Chief of Staff. Having worked in both the public and private sector, Taylor returned to the public sector to work at ATD because of the sense of purpose that she is contributing to her community. Taylor takes pride in the big and small leaps ATD accomplishes as a team. She has played a key role in the development of Urban Rail and I-35 projects and helped lead the Smart Mobility effort that ignited a city focus and spawned a statewide organization that invests in future transportation technologies. Taylor believes she is fortunate to work in a department that values women's leadership and perspectives because they strengthen overall outcomes. She loves that she still learns and grows in her role every day. Austin's draft 2022 Mobility Annual Plan, or MAP, is available for public feedback through April 3, 2022. The 2022 MAP provides an annual look ahead at more than 600 planned and proposed projects, including sidewalks, Safe Routes to School, bikeways, urban trails, Intersection Safety/Vision Zero improvements and much more across Austin. The MAP process is repeated annually to capture opportunities and leverage multiple bond-funded programs to deliver greater benefit to the community. Two meetings are scheduled this week to allow the public to talk with Project Connect team members about the Orange and Blue light rail lines, and how the designs are incorporating community feedback. The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Board of Directors is comprised of seven local community volunteers who are responsible for setting policies, identifying priority projects and ensuring the agency is operated in an efficient and effective manner. The Pedestrian Advisory Council advises the City of Austin and other jurisdictions on all matters relating to walking. This press release was produced by the City of Austin.
