Description

In this 2 hour workshop at Schuler Books, participants will discover how poetry and collage can work together to create their own zines! Poetry and collage are both mediums of fragmentation and texture. A poet often layers images through figurative language, just as someone can plop a photo of a tree on top of a fashion model’s disembodied torso in a collage. In this two hour workshop, participants will discover how poetry and collage can work together to create their own zines. Participants will utilize found materials to create their own poems and collages, as well as utilize a variety of writing prompts and group exercises to generate their own written work. Each participant will walk away with their own zine, that they can print and distribute. This workshop is limited to 12 people to preserve the integrity of the experience. About the presenter: Rosie Accola is a writer and zine-maker who resides in Grand Rapids with their cats and best pal. They are a second-year MFA candidate at the Jack Kerouac School at Naropa University. They recently finished their first novel, Supernormal Stimuli, about a wily group of guidos attempting to film a reality show in the mid-'00s, which explores themes of queerness, toxic masculinity, and how reality t.v. functions as autofiction.
