NAPERVILLE, IL — Three businesses were cited with selling nicotine products to customers under the age of 21 during a March 2022 compliance check by Naperville police.
In total, police evaluated 72 businesses to see whether they complied to the state law requiring customers to be 21 years old to buy tobacco or nicotine vape products. The following businesses failed to comply with the regulation, according to police:
Jewel-Osco on 1227 S. Naper Blvd. CBD Vape Smoke on 4003 Plainfield-Naperville Rd.Smoke XL on 1003A W. Ogden Ave.CBD Vape Smoke was also cited for failing a tobacco compliance check in March 2021.
The Naperville Police Department uses grant money from the Illinois Department of Human Services Tobacco Enforcement Program to educate businesses about age limits for buying tobacco and alternative nicotine products. Businesses are given informational packets and reminded of the importance of verifying a customer's age before selling nicotine products.
