JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested Plainfield area resident Mario Delatorre on Monday night at his family home in connection with multiple burglaries and thefts across Joliet.
At 11:11 p.m., Delatorre was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of burglary, retail theft and theft. Joliet police say his 21-year-old girlfriend, Chloe Steffins, was released on an I-Bond on charges of obstructing a peace officer.
According to Joliet police:
On March 7, officers learned that someone left the Route 59 Walmart without paying for a 55-inch television. The thief put the TV into a van and drove off. An hour later, the same thief went to the Sterling & Knight Jewelry and Pawn shop in downtown Joliet, leaving the pawn shop at 205 North Joliet St. without paying for a set of stereo speakers.
By March 16, Joliet's detectives determined that Delatorre was the culprit of both crimes, and a Will County judge issued a bench warrant for the 25-year-old's arrest.
On Monday, Joliet police learned that Delatorre was at his family's home in the 5200 block of Pine Trail Circle. At 9:05 p.m., officers found him in the basement, and he did not cause any problems at the time of his arrest, according to police.
However, while officers were escorting Delatorre to the Joliet squad car, his girlfriend, Steffins, approached the squad car and opened the door, according to police reports.
Officers again demanded that Steffins step away from the squad car, which she refused, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.
As for Delatorre, his bail remains $25,000.
