Press release from Dublin San Ramon Services District: June 25, 2020 DUBLIN, CA (June 25, 2020) – The Dublin San Ramon Services District was pleased to congratulate three Dublin High School students this week for their award in the Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair. As juniors during the 2019-2020 school year at Dublin High School, Shashank Beri, Akash Darbha, and Tyler Hom earned Senior Division First Place for the Excellence in Water Research Award. The Dublin High students' project was titled "The Applications of Ferrofluid and Its Effect on Removing Microplastics from the Ocean." The experiment researched removing microplastics from water. Normally, students would present their winning project and be honored during a DSRSD Board of Directors meeting. However, due to COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders, Board meetings are currently being held virtually. In lieu of a meeting recognition, DSRSD Board Member Rich Halket joined District staff in delivering prize checks and lawn signs to students this week. Sponsored by ten Alameda County water and wastewater agencies, the Excellence in Water Research prize awarded all three students with $200. Their science teacher, Janet Kaemhs, will also be awarded $100.
