Press release from Contra Costa County Administrator's Office: Oct. 2, 2020 The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants who are interested in serving on its 18-member Racial Justice Oversight Body (RJOB). The Racial Justice Oversight Body will have vacancies for seven (7) Community-based Representatives effective January 1, 2021. The RJOB is a multi-agency advisory body established by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to oversee the implementation of the recommendations made by the Racial Justice Task Force and accepted by the Board of Supervisors to reduce racial disparities in the criminal and juvenile justice systems. The RJOB also reviews local criminal and juvenile justice data in an ongoing fashion to identify and address any racial disparities that may persist. The Racial Justice Oversight Body is composed of the following 18 members: Four (4) Ex‐Officio Members: ü The Sheriff or his designee; ü The Chief Probation Officer or her designee; ü The Public Defender or her designee; ü The District Attorney or her designee; Five (5) Other Appointed Members: ü A representative from the Superior Court, as a non-voting member; ü A representative from a local law enforcement agency, nominated by the Contra Costa County Police Chiefs' Association; ü A representative from the Contra Costa County Office of Education; ü A representative from a Local School District; ü A representative from Contra Costa County Health Services Department; Nine (9) community-based representatives selected and appointed by the Board of Supervisors: Two (2) members of the Contra Costa Racial Justice Coalition; Two (2) individuals with prior personal criminal or juvenile justice system involvement; Two (2) representatives from community-based organizations that work with justice-involved populations, any age; One (1) representative from a community-based organization that works with justice-involved youth; One (1) representative from a faith-based organization; One (1) representative that is either a school age young person or from a community-based organization who provides services to school age youth. The Board of Supervisors is seeking applications for the following seven (7) seats on the RJOB: Two (2) individuals with prior personal criminal or juvenile justice system involvement; Two (2) representatives from community-based organizations that work with justice-involved populations, any age; One (1) representative from a community-based organization that works with justice-involved youth; One (1) representative from a faith-based organization; and One (1) representative that is either a school age young person or from a community-based organization who provides services to school age youth. Appointments to the Racial Justice Oversight Body will be for a term of two years that will be effective as of January 1, 2021, and ending December 31, 2022. The RJOB meets on a quarterly basis, and its members also serve on its three subcommittees that each currently meet on a monthly basis. All members serve on the RJOB, and its subcommittees without compensation, stipends, or reimbursement of expenses, and the selection of the community-based representatives are intended to reflect the geographic, ethnic, and racial diversity of Contra Costa County. Applications will be due by 5 p.m. on October 19, 2020, and all timely applicants will be invited to the public interview process conducted by the Board of Supervisors' Public Protection Committee: Supervisors Candace Andersen, District II, and Federal Glover, District V. This committee will then recommend a selection of applicants for Board of Supervisors to appoint to the Racial Justice Oversight Body.
