SAN RAMON, CA — Three people were arrested in a five-hour time span Tuesday thanks to newly installed cameras designed to help police spot cars linked to crime, San Ramon police said. Officers were first alerted after cameras noticed a car linked to a robbery at 1:30 p.m. Police arrested the driver — who was on probation for robbery — on suspicion of possessing stolen property and meth, police said. The passenger was arrested on two warrants related to theft. Around 6:30 p.m., officers were notified that cameras spotted a car stolen in San Jose earlier this week, police said. The driver was on probation for child endangerment and arrested on suspicion of violating probation, plus possessing a stolen car and meth, police said. Installation of the cameras began in mid-August after the city council gave approval in April. Such cameras are also in use in Danville, Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore, and officers can share data, police said.
