2 Crashes In San Ramon Area Thursday

SAN RAMON, CA — Officials reported two separate crashes Thursday that caused significant damage in the San Ramon area. The first was reported around 4:45 p.m., when a BMW sedan and Dodge truck collided head-on on Norris Canyon Road, according to the Alameda County Fire Department. A fire engine and rescue personnel were called to the scene, as was California Highway Patrol's Castro Valley office. At 4:43 pm Truck 25, Engine 6 and Rescue 24 were dispatched to a head on collision on Norris Canyon Road. Exercise caution especially as it starts getting darker earlier. #ALCOFIRE pic.twitter.com/BbHCzcHKA1— Alameda County Fire (@AlamedaCoFire) October 30, 2020 San Ramon police officers learned of the crash around 6:45 p.m. and arrived two minutes later to find a two-door Nissan coupe was ablaze after rolling over multiple times and hitting a tree near Dougherty Road and Oak Valley Drive, said Capt. Denton Carlson in an email. The driver was pinned inside, alone, and the engine had caught fire. Officers extinguished the fire and the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District worked to extricate the driver for more than two hours, he said. The driver, a 19-year-old Pleasanton man, suffered major injuries to the lower portion of his body and was flown to Eden Valley Medical Center. Drivers were asked to avoid the area. The roads were reopen by 1:15 a.m. Friday. Police are still investigating the cause, but they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Avoid Dougherty Road near Oak Valley Road/Old Ranch Road in both directions. There is a major vehicle accident. Police and Fire on scene.
