Description
PORTSMOUTH, RI — Police are warning pet owners to be extra careful when letting their animals go outside, as it is coyote mating season. During this time, coyotes are likely to be out more frequently and could be more aggressive around dogs or cats.
The Portsmouth Police Department encouraged all pet owners to keep all cats inside and to make sure dogs are leashed and within eyesight when outdoors. A coyote could perceive a pet as a rival and attack.
A dog was attacked by a coyote in the McCorrie Point neighborhood on Tuesday night and had to be taken to the animal hospital, the Portsmouth Press reported.
