No it's not alright. If they are violent towards you. Or someone who is asking for help. Or its obvious they need it. You can used defense. But most states have some sort of "reasonable use of force laws. You can't see someone stealing a bottle of booze. And then cripple them for life with a bat. Or if they attack you with a bat. Once they are down. Busting a foot. To see that they stay there. Will be viewed by the law and in court. Differently them repeatedly hitting them after they're no longer a threat. And it can and often does go to court. Then you will have to prove either you were not responsible for what happened to them. (Hard to do if you caused it.) Or that the force you used was necessary. If they can prove they were only there to steal some food for grandma. And you chased them out and they fell and got hurt. Or hit by a car. You can be held responsible. You caused the escalation. Or used unreasonable force. They can even be carrying a gun. You will have to prove. That they were intending to use it. And weren't just carrying it for protection. Even if they are carrying illegally. It's a lot more complex then this. But the laws had to be made this way. Because too many people were using any little excuse. To kill or injure people because they thought they had the right. So now thanks to these people. Even if you catch them. In your house stealing. In the middle of the night. And they are twice your size. And wont stop or go away. Or even threaten you or beat you up. If kill them or injure them badly. You will have to prove that was necessary. Or you can be held responsible. For their bills. Future wages, damages to their family etc. Plus serve prison time. All of that aside. If you're religious at all. At that point. In order to attack or use extreme force. You have to make several judgments. According to Christ. A very bad thing to do. Not something you want to get involved with. Unless your forced to. And then how you react. Will involve. Several judgements. Something God may forgive you for. But you will carry for all to see a very, very, very long time. Nobody said Christianity was easy. All that being said. There is escalation You use force Next time they or their freinds come back. They come prepared. And may use stronger methods. From the outset. Or retribution. They may come back on the people. Or store owners or witnesses. For a variety of reasons. Repercussions. They were the only one who knew what empty warehouse. They were keeping grandma in. And now she is alone, defenseless and unable to feed herself. And you sent him to the hospital unconscious. Think long and hard if you have time before you act. That really goes for a lot of things. Be prepared in your mind. For what you would do if you could. In any situation.
