MARIN COUNTY, CA — Face coverings are now mandatory on Marin Transit buses, the transit agency announced Tuesday. Marin Transit is requiring all riders to wear face coverings after Marin County issued a public health order requiring residents to cover their faces in public during the coronavirus pandemic. Face coverings are mandatory while waiting for and riding public transportation, agency officials said. Bus drivers can refuse service to riders without a face covering. "Marin Transit appreciates all riders' cooperation during this unprecedented time," Marin Transitofficials said in an announcement. "Please remember to only use transit for essential trips, maintain safe social distancing, and stay home if you are sick." The agency has continued to operate regular service amid the pandemic. Only supplemental school routes — routes numbered in the 100-series — have been suspended during school closures as well as the Muir Woods Shuttle. Supplemental school routes and Muir Woods Shuttle service will resume when school and park closures are lifted, according to Marin Transit. Marin's health order goes into effect at noon Wednesday. Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District also announced Tuesday that face coverings are required at station platforms and on board SMART trains.
