Description

Join us for a hands-on exploration of how to use the Ancestry TM genealogy database. The Miller Special Collections Room is pleased to launch our first Genealogy Basics Workshop @ The Miller Room for beginning/intermediate genealogy researchers! Please join us on Saturday, April 30 from 3-4:30PM for an engaging hands-on exploration of how to use the Ancestry TM genealogy database available via our LBPL website's Digital Library. In this 1.5 hr workshop, you'll be guided by pro genealogist and family history writer, Christine Takacs, to find essential documents -- such as vital records, census or immigration information, military records, photos, directories, court and legal documents, maps, and other materials. Christine has over two decades of genealogy experience, is a graduate of the UC Santa Cruz Creative Writing Program, and is a self-taught researcher with an expertise in United States genealogical resources. Library laptops will be provided for registrants during the program, and a comfortable familiarity with computers and navigating the internet is required. This program will take place in-person in the Miller Room and seating is limited (20 people max), so registration via Eventbrite is required to attend. The Billie Jean King Main Library is located at 200 W. Broadway, on the corner of Broadway and Pacific. Library parking is available in the structure at Broadway & Chestnut Avenue. With library validation, parking is free for the first 30 minutes and $2 for 2 hours; daily maximum is $12. Can't make the event? Please still sign up if you'd like to be added to the Miller Room's email list for advance notice of future programs. For any other questions, please contact Miller Room staff at (562) 570-6729 or by email at [email protected].
