MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Woodward Fire in Point Reyes National Seashore is now 95 percent contained, officials reported Tuesday. That's a 54 percent gain from last week. The fire, ignited by lightning, sparked Aug. 18 just south of the Woodward Trail, west of the Bear Valley Visitor Center in Olema and about a mile inland from Limantour Beach. The blaze has burned 4,895 acres and caused six injuries. "The fire is 95 percent contained but that does not mean there is not still a lot of fire out there," officials said in a news release. "It may look green, but as the videos on the inciweb (site) show, even though it looks green it is burning quite well." Crews continue to mop up hotspots and secure the line around the fire. A total of 168 firefighting personnel were assigned to the fire Wednesday, including two hand crews, 12 engines, one helicopter and one water tender. Effective 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Marin County Sheriff's Office will lift the remaining evacuation warnings in West Marin. Evacuation orders were previously lifted. Point Reyes National Seashore remains closed to the public. Full containment of the fire is expected by Sept. 20.
