Description
PORTSMOUTH, RI — The Portsmouth Police Department will soon have new accident reconstruction equipment, thanks to a grant from the Rhode Island General Assembly. Portsmouth Representatives Dennis Canario and John Edwards delivered the $11,000 grant to the department.
"The dedicated officers of the Portsmouth Police Department protect and serve the residents of Portsmouth with distinction and honor every single day," Canario said. "It is my pleasure to help the department secure an important piece of equipment that will assist in their investigations for many years to come."
The funds will be used to buy a measurement scanning and mapping tool, called a total station, which will allow for accurate measurements at crash scenes. The tool can also be used to map crime scenes, making for more efficient investigations in both cases.
"This equipment will help the Portsmouth Police Department to operate on a more efficient basis, ensuring that the people of Portsmouth are receiving top-quality service from their police department," Edwards said. "It is a privilege to help them effectively serve our residents and I commend every officer for their dedication to the people of Portsmouth."
The Portsmouth Police Department thanked the lawmakers for the grant, saying the total station will "surely make our investigations of these serious matters operate in a much more efficient manner."
"We sincerely thank the representatives for awarding us this grant!" the department said.
