Press release from the City of Clearwater: March 28, 2022 The pools are warming up. The school year is about to end, which means summer is almost here. The city is in need of pool lifeguards and camp counselors to keep the recreation center pools open and continue offering affordable summer camp. To pull a larger number of quality candidates, the city is raising the starting pay for several seasonal Parks & Recreation positions. Variable lifeguards' pay will be raised from $12.65 to $15 an hour. Additional pay is available for certifications obtained such as lifeguard certification, water safety instructor or emergency medical technician. Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old and possess the Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification. For those who do not possess the certification, the city offers lifeguard training classes. If participants can pass the pre-requisite requirements of swimming 300 yards and retrieving a 10-pound brick from nine feet of water, the fees will be waived. Summer camp counselors' pay will be raised from $12.65 to $15. Camp counselors are the heart of Clearwater's summer camps and integral to helping facilitate the program.
