WESTFIELD, NJ — After a man was assaulted and robbed by three people while walking on a trail near Memorial Pool two weeks ago, Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle provided an update to the community.
According to Brindle's message on Friday, Police Chief Chistopher Battiloro said the man was "targeted and lured," and there is no apparent threat to the community at large.
The mayor said the case remains under active investigation, and Westfield Police expects to issue an update to the public in the near future.
In last week's police blotter, it states that the man was entering the trail near Memorial Pool at around 7 p.m. on March 15 when he saw three people dressed in hooded sweatshirts with masks on. The three suspects then assaulted the man and held him down while robbing him of $300 worth of belongings, police said.
The man suffered injuries but fled the area.
