From September to early November, I took to the streets, bike paths, neighborhood cut thrus, over bridges, and into 59 Rhode Island baseball fields and sports complexes. I stopped to photograph, video, and document each field, which league plays their home games there, and to bring attention to the amazing work being done by volunteers as well as local, city, and state recreation programs. Our RI Baseball Community Connection Along the way, I met up with league representatives from Westerly and King Philip and CLCF who asked me why I was doing this bike tour of Rhode Island baseball fields. Here are just a few reason why: To showcase baseball fields in all of Rhode Island through video and photography to not only spotlight the great work done by volunteers and local officials, but also to give other leagues a glimpse of what is going on around the state in terms of baseball facilities and servicesTo introduce a field in Pawtucket to a baseball fan in Woonsocket, to highlight a concession stand in North Scituate to a volunteer in Chariho, to video the huge expanse of Peck Field for a baseball player in WarrenTo encourage a statewide dialogue about the issues concerning youth sports, participation numbers, volunteerism, new bat standards, umpiring, off season clinics.If I can be the catalyst to help unite the 60 or so youth baseball teams, the many AAU travel and showcase teams, Girls and Womens' baseball, Amateur Summer League teams, that is my goal. I look forward to helping leagues around Rhode Island find solutions from our own resources here in Rhode Island. I recorded a relay throw from Little Compton to Tiverton, Portsmouth to Jamestown, North Kingstown to Westerly, Chariho to Smithfield, Johnston to Pawtucket, and Providence to Bristol along the way. At each field, I threw a relay throw to the next field, then caught it at the next field, then relayed the ball to my next field. A RI baseball field relay throw of 59 baseball fields.
