JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Joliet woman was arrested early Sunday morning after Joliet police say Monica Martinez was under the influence of alcohol when she crashed into another motorist's car at a stop sign on Wheeler Avenue, before driving away. Several minutes later, officers arrested her on charges of DUI, DUI/BAC over 0.08, driving while license suspended, operating without insurance and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Around 12:25 a.m., Joliet police were flagged down near West Jefferson Street and Des Plaines Street regarding a crash that just happened by Wheeler Avenue and Fisk Avenue. A woman driving north on Wheeler collided with another car at the stop sign for the intersection, according to police. The motorist who caused the crash did not stop, and the other driver followed her to West Jefferson Street and Des Plaines Street, where the man flagged down a Joliet police officer, according to police spokesman Dwayne English. A patrol officer saw Martinez driving in the area and pulled her over in the east parking lot of the Joliet Police Department. Martinez admitted to drinking alcohol prior to driving and exhibited signs of alcohol impairment, Sgt. English noted. Martinez performed poorly on sobriety tests and was placed into custody without incident, he added. Joliet police say Martinez was released from custody after posting a cash bond.
