NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Municipal offices in North Kingston are closing their doors to walk-in business starting Wednesday in an effort to prevent the further spread of the new coronavirus, the town announced on Facebook. In a social media post, the town detailed Administrative Order 20-03, which affects the city's municipal buildings, including town hall. In the post, Town Manager A Ralph Mollis urged residents to consider doing business online, by mail and over the phone when possible. "Please ask yourself: Can I do this on-line? On the phone? According to the post, residents can still schedule in-person service at municipal buildings by calling ahead and making an appointment with the needed department. North Kingstown joined several other Rhode Island towns Tuesday in declaring a local state of emergency in response to growing concerns over COVID-19. The emergency order is in effect until April 8, unless it is extended, canceled or amended. Per Mollis' declaration, all non-essential public meetings have either been canceled or will be rescheduled. The town's library and senior center have also been closed. Further, the town has encouraging all health clubs to close, and will close all public restrooms to discourage individuals from visiting playgrounds.
