Press release from City of Fort Worth: March 23, 2022 Knowing the value of the work you do at your job can be the difference between being paid fairly and being underpaid. Rick Gillis has been sharing techniques to maximize and manage careers with audiences for more than two decades. He will share insights from his book, Leveling the Paying Field, A Groundbreaking Approach to Achieving Fair Pay, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Fort Worth Public Library-Central. The presentation is free and open to the public. Participants may also join the presentation via Zoom. His Quotient technique helps salaried and hourly employees determine the value of the work they deliver to their employer, especially accomplishments above and beyond what is expected of them. Knowing the value can translate into more compensation. The result is not only about earning equal pay, it's about obtaining the proper pay for the best performers no matter who they are. "When I was 16 years old, I held a part-time job that paid me $60 per week – oftentimes more," Gillis says on his website. "At the same time, my single mom, working full-time, was caring for me and my younger brother while earning $50 for every 5 ½-day week she worked. I knew this was wrong but back then (and even today in far too many places) it was 'just the way it was.' " Gillis said every job he's had, from that first one to the present, taught him lessons leading to the invention of his personal measurement process and writing the book. "I am not sure that I would have recognized the (Quotient) process for what it was had the idea come to me any sooner," he says. Get articles like this in your inbox. Subscribe to City News.
