Press release from the City of Long Beach: March 24, 2022 Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach invites the public to attend a grand opening ceremony for the new Colorado Lagoon playground, located at 5059 E. Colorado St., at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29. "We are so excited for this new playground at Colorado Lagoon. The City has been working hard to improve water quality, wildlife habitat and community space," said Mayor Robert Garcia. "This is also the tenth playground in the City funded by Measure A, which has continued to provide critical public infrastructure and safety services." Improvements include a new inclusive children's play area designed for ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, with features for active recreation like slides, swings, bridges and climbing walls, as well as areas to foster children's imaginations like a general store, ship mast and telescope. Other enhancements include new picnic tables and seating, landscaping beautification, new and upgraded pathways and other ADA amenities to create a more accessible atmosphere for all. "For the last 13 years, the City has been investing in Colorado Lagoon to restore its ecosystem, improve water quality, restore and enhance recreational facilities, and this incredible progress could not have been possible without the fantastic partnership from the community including the Friends of Colorado Lagoon, the Belmont Heights Community Association and the Alamitos Heights Improvement Association," said Councilwoman Price. "Today we are celebrating this great new playground that kids from the surrounding community will love as well as families from all across the city. The Colorado Lagoon is a wonderful City asset and its only getting better and better." The Colorado Lagoon Park Playground project was made possible utilizing Tidelands Funds with supplemental funding from Measure A.
