LAKEWOOD, NJ — New Jersey's delayed primary elections are just over two weeks away, and officials are preparing for changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. In April, Gov. Phil Murphy delayed primary day a month, from its usual early June date because officials anticipated the outbreak of the coronavirus wouldn't be as severe. The delay aimed to give the state more time to prepare for mail-in voting. Since then, the state has ordered counties to mail ballots to residents who are registered as Republicans or Democrats, and mail-in ballot applications to other registered voters. For voters who prefer to cast their ballots in person, there will be nine polling locations in Lakewood, each handling several voting districts. Paper provisional ballots will be available at polling locations on July 7. An accessible voting device will be provided for those who have disabilities. See the list of polling locations below. Vote-by-mail ballots need to be returned to the county board of elections by 8 p.m. on July 7. It can be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service in the postage-paid envelope provided with the mail-in ballot. It also can be delivered in person to the Board of Elections, 129 Hooper Ave., Toms River. The county also will provide secure, vote-by-mail drop-off boxes, County Clerk Scott A. Colabella said. If you have questions, call the Ocean County Board of Elections at 732-929-2167. If you have questions about vote by mail, call 732-929-2018. Check out the primary sample ballots at this link. The in-person polling locations are as follows; polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Here are the in-person polling locations in Lakewood: Have a news tip?
