Description
NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A lane split will be installed starting Friday night as part of the RI Department of Transportation's repairing of the deck of the Lafayette Bridge above the Amtrak's Northeast Corridor tracks.
The split lanes will be in effect about two months. No exits will be affected. Drivers are asked not to switch lanes directly before the splits and to maintain steady speeds.
The change will affect both the northbound and southbound lanes with one lane split on either side of the travel lanes. The split will be just south of Exit 3 in (Route 102 in Wickford), where travel lanes have been shifted to the right.
Once the split is lifted later in the summer, the third phase of construction will result in all lanes being shifted to the left to finish the repaired bridge deck. All lanes will be completed in the fall with the work expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
Work on the Lafayette Railroad Bridge is part of a $10.1 project that includes concrete, bridge joint repairs to the bridges.
