Here are the top three stories in Grand Rapids today: The Children's Advocacy Center of Kent County has gained a new four-legged employee: Bacon the golden retriever. Bacon, who is a Paws With A Cause (PAWS)-trained facility dog, arrived at the center last week and will remain a permanent part of the Grand Rapids-based team. The Children's Advocacy Center supports children who have survived sexual abuse; the golden retriever's role is to help make the children more comfortable. (FOX 17 West Michigan News)A prospective downtown amphitheater project is expected to take a step forward this week. The Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority (CAA) is seeking approval to purchase the 11.6 acres of city-owned land at 201 Market Avenue to build a 12,000-seat amphitheater. The CAA's purchase request is set to be considered in today's meeting with the Grand Rapids City Commission and will go to the CAA board for approval the next day. The Kent County Board of Commissioners has reportedly already signed off on the request.
