LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of another man on Monday, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.
Jorge Santiago-Garcia, 32, of Lakewood, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
The victim's name is being withheld at this time pending next-of-kin notification, he said.
Multiple 911 calls reported a man had been stabbed at a business on Second Avenue in Lakewood, and Lakewood police found a 29-year-old man with a stab wound to his chest, Billhimer said.
The man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune but attempts to save his life failed, and he was pronounced dead, the prosecutor said.
Investigators from the prosecutor's office Major Crime and High Tech Crime unit, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Lakewood police identified Santiago-Garcia as the person who stabbed and killed the victim, Billhimer said.
Santiago-Garcia was arrested and is being held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Billhimer praised the investigators' efforts that led to Santiago-Garcia's swift apprehension.
