LAKEWOOD, NJ — For years, Sara Trahey helped students learn their way around a library and helped foster a love of reading. Now, the library where she worked with those children will permanently bear her name, to honor and remember her, the Lakewood school district announced. The library at the Ella G. Clarke School, where Trahey was the media specialist, will be dedicated to her memory at the Feb. 26 Board of Education meeting, said Michael Inzelbuch, the school board attorney. Trahey died Friday in a fire at her home in the Silverton section of Toms River. Her husband, Jeff, and the couple's three children escaped but Trahey was unable to get out. Her death has been a crushing blow both to the Toms River community where she grew up, and to the Lakewood school community. Inzelbuch said that in addition to the library dedication, he and his family are dedicating a $1,000 yearly scholarship in Trahey's name to be awarded to a graduating Lakewood senior who will pursue a degree in library science. The Feb. 26 Lakewood school board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at 855 Somerset Ave., Lakewood. Have a news tip? Email [email protected] Follow Lakewood Patch on Facebook.
