Fewer Restrictions Draw Bay Area Residents To Peninsula: Report

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — With virtually all neighboring counties under lockdown, San Mateo County's relatively lax restrictions are attracting residents from other areas, KTVU reports. County officials declined to join five other counties and the city of Berkeley that preemptively enacted stay-at-home orders amid an explosion of coronavirus cases in the Bay Area and throughout the nation. San Mateo County still allows outdoor dining and other activities prohibited in much of the Bay Area and that's led to an influx of out-of-county residents, the report said. "I mean, there's nothing open in Alameda right now and we wanted to get together with family so here we are, decided to meet up in San Mateo," Bilquis Ayar told KTVU. San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa told the television station he's concerned those from out of the county could be bringing infections along with their dollars. "So my plea, my begging is for those people outside of San Mateo county please respect our county and don't come to our county to shop or use the restaurants," Canepa said according to the report.
