Position Summary: The Assistant Port Captain is responsible for coordinating all repairs for the fleet as well as any Argosy owned or leased properties. The Assistant Port Captain, with the help of the Port Captain, is also in charge of all training, including development of Manuals. Essential Job Functions: • Responsible, with the Port Captain, for hiring, training, monitoring performance, development, scheduling, payroll and workloads of all direct reports • Produce a weekly project list and schedule, delegating duties to crew ensuring all repairs and maintenance items completed on schedule and within budget ranges • Assist the Port Captain in developing, implementing, and creating a strategy for regular schedule of vessel maintenance and turnover • Track and stock of all parts and supplies in regard to facility and vessel operation/upkeep • Track Maintenance intervals for oil changes, rebuilds, replacements etc. • With Human Resources, build training manual for department • Train new engineers • Maintain, repair, build and modify engines, generators, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, bar equipment, restrooms, docks, office machines, and other equipment around and throughout Argosy Cruises • Replace and repair electrical equipment/components 110 & 240 volt single and three phase and DC wiring controls. • Maintains and adheres to all Argosy & OSHA/WISHA safety knowledge, practice & procedures by reading and updating self of Maintenance Safety Manual each year. • Attend Coast Guard inspections with Port Captain to make sure all components are completed in a timely manner • Other duties as assigned Job Requirements and Qualifications: • 3-5 years related industry; equivalent experience • Must be fluent in English (including reading and writing) • Experience with Windows Operating System, including software of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required. • Must be able to pass a respirator fit test, including physical as needed • Ability to train on the following tools: Skill saw, chop saw, table saw, sawzall, drill press, drills, grinders, Dremel’s, grinders, sanders, cutters, band saws, paint sprayers, ladders, chain falls, volt meters, rivet guns, nail guns, stud guns, pipe threaders • Must have current driver’s license and good driving record • Must hold current TWIC card as issued by Homeland Security or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and be part of Argosy’s drug testing program Preferred Qualifications: • Preferred knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard Regulations preferred for T and K Vessels • Preferred working knowledge of the following mechanical systems: hydraulics, ventilation/air intakes, acoustical insulation and tiles, engine installs, shafts and propellers, fuel systems, engine controls, elevators, surface treatments (carpet, wallpaper, vinyl lettering), wet exhaust, water systems, sanitary waste systems, HVAC, motors, gears, emergency equipment, electronic equipment, cleaning equipment and painting equipment • Experience in Machine Maintenance, Marine Electronics, Sound Equipment, bar functions and other vessel equipment preferred Physical Requirements: • This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, hand tools, power tools; as well as have the ability to kneel, bend, squat or sit in small areas/spaces. • May require extended periods of standing, laying down or being in a prone position including within cramped spaces • May work in all types of weather conditions, including heat, cold and rain • May need to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally with or without assistance • Full range of motion in shoulders, elbows, hands, feet, ankles and knees. • Functional spatial orientation and reaction time • Vision requirements: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, corrected; ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more corrected; good peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. • Functional hearing, correctable to within normal ranges.
